is it worth it?
“Why would I reupholster my old furniture when I can get brand new for the same price or cheaper?”
This is one of the most common questions we get. The answer is pretty easy if it’s a piece of furniture that is heirloom quality. These pictures show the drastic difference in build-quality and materials. Couch A is a 30-year old, American made, Stickley couch. Couch B is a much newer, cheaper couch.
Couch A has individual coil springs that have been hand-tied and the structural quality has not changed a bit in its 30 year lifetime. Compare that to B that has a handful of zig-zag springs that were held together by a now broken tie wire
Couch A is definitely worth reupholstering. The materials used were such high quality and high durability that even after 30 years of use, it shows little wear. All it needs is some new fabric to bring it back to life!
Couch B is more of a toss up. If it fits your space and your style, a very nice, yet economical, fabric could be the answer.
While Greg’s mission is to save all furniture from being tossed to the curb, we are always very honest about the investment and if it would be worth it or not.
