Thanks for stopping by! My name is Krista and I am in charge of all the behind-the-scenes stuff here at MFD. The rest of the work… the actual designs, beautiful woodworking, mind-boggling furniture transformations… that’s all my husband, Greg. He is incredibly talented and it’s been so fun seeing him grow what started as a hobby into this full-time, very busy, business.

I thought for our first blog post, I’d give a little background about how we got to this point and then I promise, I’ll get to posting the furniture. Greg and I both grew up here in Green Bay, WI and went to the same high school but didn’t meet or start dating until after college. We got married in 2012 and had our daughter, Tessa, in 2015 and then Lucy came along and completed our family in 2017!

I work in Human Resources and Greg… well, he tried working in the corporate world in various Design/Engineering type roles over the years… but finally convinced me to take a leap and start Makos Furniture & Design in August of 2020. That’s right… we started a small business in the middle of a pandemic. Follow us for more excellent life advice! In all seriousness, it truly has been one of the best decisions we’ve made and I couldn’t be more proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time.

Greg has always loved art, working with his hands, building and designing. After high school, he went to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for Prototype & Design and spent a few years in Chicago building prototypes for Radio Flyer and models of some of the biggest buildings in the world at an architectural model firm. He eventually moved back to Green Bay and started woodworking as a hobby while working full-time and teaching CAD part-time at NWTC. As his hobby started to turn into more of a side hustle, he grew antsier in his desk job and it was hard to deny that he was doing what he was born to do. He began teaching himself how to upholster and quickly fell in love with that too.

Enter 2020 and COVID. The world shut down and we were all at home together… all day… every day. Greg wasn’t happy in his job and was busier than ever with furniture work so after trying to convince me for a couple years that he could make this business work, I finally gave in. Fast forward 4 months and I ask him daily why he didn’t start it sooner ;) He is incredibly happy and every piece of furniture that comes out of his workshop is better than the last. I’m beyond excited for what the future holds for Makos Furniture.

Thanks for following along as we navigate this small business ownership thing!
